MDM Artistic Researchers and Symposium

November 2023

We are pleased to announce the From Multidirectional Memory to Multidirectional Moments (MDM) artistic researchers and forthcoming online publishing and symposium events in Vienna November 16 – 18.

Launched in November 2022, MDM is an artistic research project organized with the department of Artistic Strategies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Die Angewandte), Palais des Beaux Arts Wien (PdBA), and MARCH: a journal of art & strategy. Following a call for proposals earlier this year, the six selected projects and proposals highlight geographically dispersed examples of how “multidirectional” approaches to memory challenge assumptions and what new forms are emerging within contemporary art.

Joining MDM’s core team of artists (Bernhard Garnicnig, Seth WeinerAntoine Turillon, Stephanie Misa, and Sarrita Hunn), the selected artistic researchers include Kandis Friesen, Talya Lubinsky and Tammy Langtry, Chinar Shah, Hande Sever, Lyónn Wolf (formerly Emma Wolf-Haugh), and Emilia Yang, who will each present their projects and research online and/or in Vienna in the coming days.

Building from questions about how emerging practices challenge dominant memory regimes in the public sphere, the MDM Symposium is three-day discursive event focused on participants’ projects and research discussed and developed over the past year. All events are free and open to the public.
